Meals on Wheels America’s National Ad Council Campaign featured four SOS Meal recipients! “America, Let’s Do Lunch” launched nationally on July 12th, 2016. The campaign features seniors who currently receives Meals on Wheels and is designed to bring in a new influx of volunteers. The campaign includes TV Ads, print images, radio spots, social media and digital media images.

 

Lola Silvestri, 94 a resident of Hayward, CA. Lola is a San Francisco native and long time resident of Hayward, CA. Lola raised two children and worked in public relations for the Sears Roebuck Company. She was married for over 50 years and was widowed 5 years ago.

 

Charles and Maude Spann are 103 and 99 years old! They are longtime residents of San Lorenzo who have been married for 76 years! Charles was an electrician and Maude stayed home to raise their children. They are both independent types who only began receiving Meals on Wheels a few years ago. Their home is full of pictures of their large extended family which includes a great-great grandchild!

 

Julius Gaines is a retired school counselor, poet and amateur photographer. Mr Gaines was a school psychologist in the Berkeley public schools for almost 30 years before retiring in 1994. Mr. Gaines authored a book of poems entitled Homecoming – A Book of Poems which was published in 1996. Mr. Gaines received a grant from the Virginia Foundation for The Humanities to write a book about his native Staunton, Virginia. Mr. Gaines began receiving Meals on Wheels after he suffered a stroke in 2007.

SOS/Meals on Wheels is registered with the East Bay Community Foundation’s “East Bay Gives 2015” campaign. The East Bay Community Foundation is sponsoring East Bay as part of the “Give Local America” national day of giving.
