Getting Closer to that Half-Million Meal Mark

By the time our first six months of grueling emergency response efforts were behind us, our meal production and number of seniors counting on us for food were an all-time high, so we set an ambitious goal for ourselves. That goal--to serve a half-million meals within one fiscal year--is now just within our reach.

At some point in the next week or two, SOS Meals on Wheels will serve it's 500,000th meal this fiscal year!

Next week, we will commemorate this historic milestone with a few special guest meal deliverers. Here's who you may see out on a route, helping to keep our older neighbors nourished and connected, as we do every day:

  • From the City of Oakland: Mayor Libby Schaff, Aging & Adult Services Manager Scott Means, and Director of Human Services Sara Bedford

  • From San Leandro: Mayor Pauline Russo Cutter and Acting Police Chief Luis Torres

  • From Hayward: Mayor Barbara Halliday

  • From the Alameda County Board of Supervisors: Supervisor Nate Miley and Supervisor Wilma Chan

...What a lineup!
